Mad Maz’s Top 5 Movies of 2015…so far

Share This:

I have watched a lot of movies this year…maybe too many?  Some of the films were better than others… but only a few can rank among my favorite. Now, this top 5 list will most likely need to be amended by the end of the year as there are some other films I am very heavily anticipating and, hey, there are always sleeper films that surprise me. So this list is by no means final and it certainly does not represent anyone else’s opinion but my own.

So, here is my list of the top 5 movies of 2015 (so far):

5. Spy

Honestly, this film was a welcomes surprise. I had to be convinced to see this by my wife, I had no intention of actually going to see it. My mindset was basically, “Oh look, it is Tammy 2!”– the joke being that Melissa McCarthy has been doing the same role in her last six films and I have grown tired of it. However, I loved this film…honestly…and I didn’t want to. McCarthy put forth a refreshing performance, the movie was a lot of fun and Jason Statham was hilarious in this movie.

4. The Gift

the-gift-posterI am usually not a fan of thrillee/suspense films because I hate being ready to jump during  a film… I jump easy, this is partly why I avoid horror films as well. But honestly this film  might be one of the best acted films I have seen in a while. The entire cast plays there parts well, which is particularly great considering that most of the characters become completely different from the beginning to the end of the film.

3. The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

man-from-uncleAmerica mostly overlooked this film in 2015. I sort of blame their ad-campaign for this? It wasn’t that intriguing and you need it to be given that its a remake of an extremely old story.  But Henry Cavill seems to be in his element in this film playing a suave and sophisticated ladies man and CIA operative. He is extremely smooth and charming and still manages to be extremely funny. Armie Hammer also brought a lot of humor to his role as a stone-cold killer spy from the Soviet Union. There chemistry (or anti-chemistry) made this film a lot of fun.

2. Inside Out

INSIDE-OUT-18Inside Out was by far one of the cutest films of the year and it tugged on my heart strings from beginning to end. It was well-casted especially when you have Lewis Black acting as an 11 year old girl’s “anger”. And it is a film for all ages– parents and children alike. If you don’t get the feels from this movie there might be something medically wrong with you.

1. Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta ComptonLike Spy, I had no intention of seeing this film based on the previews. I didn’t know much about Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E or N.W.A., it was before my time and I honestly though it wouldn’t be a good film. I was invited to see it by my brother and, since I go and see every film, I figured why not? I was blown away by this film as the actors were amazing Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., WAS Ice Cube. The story was extremely interesting and the film was actually less raunchy than I thought it would be. This is currently my favorite film of the year because it was able to achieve a lot of emotion and depth and stay true (based on what I have researched anyways) to the core material.

So there it is folks, my top 5 list of 2015 so far! I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2015 has to offer and I looke forward to amending or reinforcing my list! What are your top 5 films of 2015?
